Your DJ shapes the mood of your entire reception, from the grand entrance to the last song. Since 1989, Nation Wide Sound DJ’s has played weddings across Miami, Homestead and South Florida, and these are the questions we suggest every couple ask before signing with any DJ.
1. How many weddings have you played?
Weddings are different from club nights. Look for a DJ who understands timelines, family traditions and how to read a room with guests from age 8 to 80.
2. Will you also be our MC?
Your DJ usually announces the entrance, toasts, first dance and cake cutting. Ask to hear how they speak on the mic and whether they will coordinate with your planner and photographer.
3. Can we pick the music?
A good DJ welcomes your must-play and do-not-play lists, then fills the gaps with songs that keep the floor moving. In South Florida that often means blending salsa, merengue, bachata and reggaeton with pop, hip-hop and throwbacks.
4. Do you provide ceremony and cocktail-hour sound?
If your ceremony is in a different spot, you need wireless mics for the officiant and readers plus a second sound setup. Confirm this is included.
5. What backup equipment do you bring?
Ask what happens if a speaker, cable or laptop fails. Professional DJs carry spares.
6. Is lighting included?
Uplighting and dance-floor lighting transform a ballroom or a backyard. Ask to see photos of real setups.
7. How do you handle outdoor weddings?
Miami weather changes fast. Ask about power, shade and a rain plan for the equipment.
8. Who exactly will DJ our wedding?
Some companies send whoever is available. Ask to meet or speak with your actual DJ.
9. What does the timeline look like?
Your DJ should help build a minute-by-minute plan and share it with your venue.
10. What is included in the package?
Compare hours, setup time, MC services, lighting and add-ons like a photo booth. See our DJ packages and wedding DJ services.
